Us vs Them Thinking

Published by Janeé Nealey, Founder of Queer Ministry

Instead of honoring diversity, we often demonize it. Because we desire to be good people, we cope by saying "that's just THEIR opinion. I politely agree to disagree." Meanwhile, our hearts are anything but kind. We are othering someone based on things we do not fully understand. When your mind tries to play the "us" and "them" game, recognize you may be othering based on bias. If you are, there is spiritual healing to be done.

Us vs Them Thinking

  • "This is just my opinion"

  • "I don't follow your beliefs"

  • "I have never experienced that"

  • "They don't worship God like us"

  • "They serve a different God than us"

  • They worship multiple Gods, so they oppose and dishonor our God"

"Us" vs "Them" thinking is a sign of spiritual decay!

When there is an "us" and a "them" in our hearts, we are no longer one.

We are broken.

We are fractured.

Our power is no longer collective.

Our future is no longer unified.

No differences between humans are that substantial for there to be an us and a them. We use terms like opinion, belief, experiences to dull our empathy senses. We build a false reality of lies that distort our perceptions of God, Divinity, ourselves and other human beings.
