Thoughts On Fasting As We Enter Lent

Published by Janeé Nealey, Founder of Queer Ministry

Fasting should be personal. It should be joyous. It should be something that adds to your life and regularly revisited. Fasting should reserve space for the universe to move miraculously in your life. Fasting is not a time for your critical inner voice to be in control. This is not a time to nitpick your body, diet, or pleasure. Fasting is a time to allow God to dictate your schedule; remove the unnecessary or the excessive; and usher in a renewal of Love, Hope, Power, Peace. Please Please Please Allow God to dictate your fast. Fasts do not only remove things, they can also add things. Before you remove or add something, ask yourself if the Spirit of Love is being served. Is this integral to your Divine Work? Does it bring joy?
